History

Morrison Lamothe is a third-generation family business, founded in 1933 as a bakery in Ottawa, Ontario by brothers-in-law Cecil Morrison and Richard Lamothe. The company began supplying fresh bread and grew into the largest bakery in the capital city area by the 1960s.  It diversified into the restaurant and catering business in the late 1940s, and then in the 1960s, into frozen food manufacturing.

The entry into frozen meals positioned Morrison Lamothe as an efficient producer specializing in meat pies and prepared dinners.  Expansion and modernization of a plant located in Toronto, Ontario allowed Morrison Lamothe to acquire the Holiday Farms brand in 1984 and move into the frozen entrée category. The acquisition of Northern Fine Foods in 1990 provided an opportunity to increase our presence in the expanding co-pack and private label segments of the frozen food market. Over the years we focused on segments that maximize our core competencies along with strengthening key partnerships.

In 2005, Morrison Lamothe diversified further through its acquisition of Club Coffee, one of the largest coffee roasters in North America. In 2022, Club Coffee became a part of OFI, a new operating group born out of Olam.

Today, Morrison Lamothe continues in family hands through Cecil Morrison’s grandchildren. John Pigott is CEO, his brother, David Pigott is President and their cousin, Kelly (Cook) Kubrick is Vice President and General Manager. The current generation succeeded Cecil’s daughters, Marguerite (Grete) Hale, Chair in 2005, and Jean Pigott, who ran the company from 1967 to 1978. Both sisters were Order of Canada recipients recognized for their outstanding public service and community involvement.
